Workshop on Interaction and Multimodality in Language Acquisition 2022
7 abril, 2022 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
We are delighted to announce the Workshop on Interaction and Multimodality in Language Acquisition 2022 (WIMLA-2022), an international workshop that will be hosted by the Instituto de Investigaciones Filológicas, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, in Mexico City. It is associated with a former workshop on Individual differences in language development, and with the meetings that the Red de Estudios de Adquisición del Lenguaje in Mexico celebrates each year since 2000. This time the Workshop focuses on Interaction and Multimodality in Language Acquisition.
WIMLA-2022 welcomes research on language interaction in children’s acquisition environments, with a multimodal perspective on language, prosody, and gesture. We are interested in affinities and differences in interaction in various acquisition environments: across communities (non-WEIRD or WEIRD) and family members, in monolingual or bilingual acquisition conditions, with typical and atypical development children, related to specific interaction situations. Relevant work on indigenous languages in the Americas and sign languages is greatly appreciated.
The topics that we are mainly interested in include –but are not restricted to– the following:
- Diversity in interactional practices and management of interaction
- Aspects of interactional organization: patterns and sequences.
- Composite messages: Language, Prosody, Gesture.
- Dialogic syntax and Co-construction
We welcome abstract submissions for posters and for 30-minute talks (20 +10) in English or Spanish. Submissions are restricted to a maximum of one first-authored submission and one joint submission per author. Abstracts should not be longer than 400 words and include four keywords. They should be submitted to the workshop website.
