Description:
Mind Hong Kong, in collaboration with the University of Hong Kong, invites applicants for a fully-funded PhD. Funding covers either a 3- or 4-year PhD studentship, depending on the applicant’s background and qualifications, commencing in Sep 2020.

The applicant will be tasked with the some, or all, of the following:
– Development and implementation of the evaluation of Hong Kong-based anti-stigma programme (encompassing advertising campaign, speaker training, and speaker events);
– Analysis of data of baseline study into attitudes towards mental health and stigma in Hong Kong;
– Cross-cultural comparisons of mental health/anti-stigma programmes, between Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, and globally;
– Adaptation of resources from the United Kingdom to the Hong Kong context, and evaluation of this;
– Supporting the evaluation of Mind Hong Kong’s current adult mental health training programmes and resources.

The applicant should have strong quantitative and/or qualitative research skills, and a specific interest in mental health, with a background in mental health, public health, and social sciences research. The applicant is expected to work towards an INTERDISCIPLINARY PhD.

The applicant must be confident in speaking and writing in English and Cantonese. Mandarin is not required but is considered desirable.

The successful applicant will be registered with the School of English (HKU) and supervised by academic staff across relevant Faculties at the University. If you have a first degree from a university where the language of teaching and examination is not English, you must have obtained a score of 550 or above in the TOEFL (Test of English as Foreign Language) and a score of 4 or above in the TWE (Test of Written English). We also accept the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) but you must have at least a score of 7 with no subtest lower than 5.5. You will be expected to have a good academic reference.

Candidates who already hold a research master’s degree (e.g., MPhil) are eligible for admission to a 3-year PhD. Candidates without a research master’s degree programme are eligible to apply for a 4-year PhD.
